Just when you know what to expect...it doesn't turn out that way. April’s ‘4 the love’ @ WEDGE was a vibe a lil' different from usual. First off, we had a room full of new faces. That aint a bad thing mind you... But did they know our music? Well I didn't even know the treat I would be in for. Second, we had a smaller crowd that was still ready to have fun! And that we did!!!
Matt Best lived up to his name. He started the night with an ethereal vibe that kept the room smooth and mellow… But funky! when you hear Santana on a sound system that is meant for music it makes it a totally new song.
By tradition it seems the first hour of a ‘4 the love’ party is up for grabs. Just trust the "DJ" as they say. We try to take you to new places and revisit the old in new ways. When I heard the Pointer Sisters and Grace Jones I felt like I was in 1978 somewhere, but the Steve Miller band's "Macho City" dug really deep. I don't want to go track for track but it was an amazing feel. I know Mitch will say "God Made Me Funky" turned the vibe to another level but for me it was when Matt dropped a vicious mix of Prince's "Sexy Dancer" right before that. Man I knew I was gonna dance tonight. That will be a tune dropped by me soon... I did once but not that mix.
By the way Matt, this aint all about you but thanks for the Ananda Project! So I had to let you folks know that you missed our new boy. People were in and out of the room, dancin', drinkin' and I had to stop a few from lovin' a lil' too much! NO SEX IN THE CHAMPAGNE ROOM! ;)
But what about our usual maestro the Billion Dollar Boy himself? Well Mitch played at least 3-4 tunes I had dibs on but I forgive him. He got on and tore it up as usual but then again you regulars should know that! I was too busy dancin’ and drinkin’ (Matt's red bullshit n whatever he gave me) to keep track of all the big tunes Mitch laid down but it was an endless knockout punch! In a haze I think I heard Lost in Music, Machine, Jackie Moore, Flowerz by Van Helden (which was a highlight of mine).
You know Mitch does his thing every time and now we have a new guy you can count on to ease you in with funky stuff. I try now n again too. So with the upcoming lie-up of gigs featuring the ‘4the love’ DJ’s, you would be foolish to miss out. And we miss you, so see you at the next jam!
